Leeds Parish Church (Leeds, United Kingdom)
Ian Tracey, Simon Lindley, David Houlder, Daniel Bishop

Hear the Parish Church organ play with four Makin instruments. Based upon last year’s event, this is one not to miss! Makin instruments have continued to feature in the musical life of Leeds Parish Church ever since, not least in a series of Battle of the Organs presentations held in early Summer for the past four years. The Battles – good natured affairs devised by the Parish Church’s Sub Organist David Houlder – have all been in support of an ongoing appeal for £500,000 to secure the future of the Parish Church’s celebrated Choral Foundation. As at January 2008, over £407,000 has been raised towards this...

For immediate release: Leeds Parish Church Battle of the Organs 2006 We look forward eagerly to the return of Professor Ian Tracey on Wednesday 7th June 2006 at 7:30pm in Leeds Parish Church for the 2nd annual Battle of the Organs. Joining Professor Tracey will be Organist and Master of the Music Dr Simon Lindley together with Organist David Houlder and Organ Scholars Edward Taylor and Peter Brand. The event is being presented in association with Makin Organs who are once again very generously loaning the organs for the event. They will be pitted against the four keyboards and over 6500 pipes of the “resident” organ at the Parish Church, dating back to 1859. Makin Managing Director, Dr Keith Harrington, says: ”We are once again delighted to be involved in an enjoyable evening’s entertainment with the aim of raising much-needed funds for the Parish Church’s Choral Foundation Appeal.” Professor Tracey said: “I am looking forward immensely to returning to the Parish Church and working with colleagues and friends old and new. The Leeds audience is terrific, and I so enjoy my visits.” David Houlder said: “We’re busy planning the content of the evening, and are set on including special favourites – with an organ or two more than last time, the difficulty will be knowing what to leave out!” The Battle of the Organs is promoted by The Friends of The Music of Leeds Parish Church, who have set up an Appeal to secure the future of almost 200 years of choral tradition at historic Leeds Parish Church. Admission is free, but there is a retiring collection. Last year’s event raised over £1,100 for the Appeal. Notes for the Editor. 1. In 2001 The Friends of The Music of Leeds Parish Church, a registered charity, launched an appeal for half a million pounds needed to provide a sound financial base for the Choral Foundation and secure its long-term future. 2. Appeal proceeds form an endowment to cover the day-to-day running expenses of the Choir of Leeds Parish Church. 3. Fundraising has already passed the half-way mark towards the £500,000 required. Reaching our target would remove the ongoing challenge of seeking to secure funding to defray the current annual deficit of £20,000 4.
