Stephen Tharp, hailed as “the organist for the connoisseur” (Organ magazine, Germany), “the thinking person’s performer” (Het Orgel), “every bit the equal of any organist” (The American Organist magazine) and “the consummate creative artist” (Michael Barone, Pipedreams), is recognized as one of the great concert organists of our age. Having played 30 solo intercontinental tours and over 800 North American concerts, he has built one of the most well-respected international careers in the world, earning him the reputation as the most traveled concert organist of his generation. In April 2008, Stephen Tharp was named the Official Organist for the New York City visit of Pope Benedict XVI, playing for three major events attended by more than 60,000 people that were broadcast live worldwide. Mr. Tharp earned his BA degree, magna cum laude, from Illinois College, Jacksonville, IL and his MM from Northwestern University, Chicago, where he studied with Rudolf Zuiderveld and Wolfgang Rübsam, respectively. He has also worked privately with Jean Guillou in Paris. In 1926 famed St. Patrick Cathedral organist, Pietro Yon, came to St. Louis to play the newly installed Kilgen organ of the St. Louis Cathedral. Now over 80 years later, we will again feature the Director of Music/Organist from this famed Cathedral. Dr. Jennifer Pascual was appointed Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in New York City in 2003. She is the first woman to hold this position, one of the most prestigious sacred music appointments in the United States. Dr. Pascual earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Organ Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where she studied with David Higgs and taught undergraduate theory courses. She holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Mannes College of Music in New York City where she studied with Nina Svetlanova and studied organ privately with McNeil Robinson. She received Bachelor of Music Degrees in Piano and Organ Performance, magna cum laude, and Music Education from Jacksonville University in Florida where she studied with Mary Lou Wesley Krosnick and William Saunders. She was on the Artistic Staff of the Boys Choir of Harlem, Inc. from 1994 to 2003. Robert Lehman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in organ performance with honors from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Master of Music degree in church music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey. He has served on the staff of several distinguished churches, including the Washington National Cathedral, the Princeton University Chapel, and Saint Bartholomew’s Church, New York City, and has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Handel Festival Orchestra, the Washington Chamber Symphony, and with the Carnegie Brass Quintet, the Fine Arts Brass Quintet, the Annapolis Brass Quintet, the St. Louis Symphony Brass, and the River City Brass Band – the original fully-professional English-style brass band in the United States. For thirteen years he led the music program at Christ Church, New Haven where, under his leadership, the choir gained international recognition. Maintaining an active career as a performer, Robert Lehman is featured often as a conductor and solo recitalist both in this country and abroad. His discography includes works of J.S. Bach, French Classical Noëls for Christmas, music for organ and brass with members of the River City Brass Band, and works of nineteenth and twentieth century composers. In addition, he has recorded with the Woodley Ensemble, of which he was the founding director, the Christ Church Choir, and the Washington National Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys for Angel/EMI Records. His compositions are published by several American publishers and have been recorded by leading choirs around the globe.
