Tickets €15/€12 (conc) Booking Number: 1850-374643 (1850-FRINGE) Dreyer’s masterpiece La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc is a portrait of France’s warrior-maiden, based on transcripts from her fifteenth-century trial. The film’s own story mirrors its heroine’s: denounced by French and English nationalists, mutilated by cuts and revisions, destroyed by fire (the original negative). Mlle Falconetti’s performance as Jeanne (“the greatest…ever captured on film”) augments the techniques used–close-ups, sets built out of proportion to each other.
